Flax is grown even in the ancient times as a source of food and fiber. I just wonder how our ancestors from way back before have discovered the many benefits of flax, maybe they don’t even fully know the health benefits of flax seeds but they just know that it is edible. That is why the tradition of cultivating flax is still alive up to this generation, thankfully they were able to pass on that tradition to us, especially now that we know the many benefits it can give to our body.
The plant can grow up to 3 feet high only, has small blue flowers and thrives in cold, northern climates. The flax seeds are taken from the flower which produces 7 to 10 flaxseeds each. It’s either you consume the whole flaxseed or the milled flax seed for your Appetizers and Side Dishes, Baking Bread, Muffins , Breakfast, Cookies and Desserts, Gluten-Free, Snacks, Soups and Salads. Flax seed are excellent source of soluble fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids. There are many favorite foods like broccoli salad, fried rice, pizza, crackers, cookies, smoothies, shakes and others that can be enjoyed with a heart – healthy twist with just some addition of the flax seed. It is the national flower of Belarus. It is also the emblem of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the flax plant also appears on British coins to represent Northern Ireland. The various parts of the plant are also used to create many products like cotton, linen, rope and others.
